CoD: Black Ops Zombie Teaser Site

Some time ago a number of gaming journalists at popular companies received a USB stick with a bunch of odd information on it that pointed to website and then back to Activision. Well the website GKNOVA6.com is now updated with new content and is dedicated to CoD: Black Ops. If you go check it out you will see what I mean. This further confirms the inclusion of a zombie mode in the Black Ops game due to release Nov 11th of this year.

I for one can't wait to shot a zombie with an explosive tipped arrow from a crossbow and watch him wander into another couple of zombies and BOOM!!!

Zombie News No. 28 + Dead Space Mini-Review

So true.

This is a HUGE update. Why? Because I have been slacking and not updating regularly like I normally do. No matter. Another 5 days and Dead Rising 2 will be spinning happily in my Xbox360 and my attention will again be diverted. I also am including a mini-review of the original Dead Space game for PS3 in this edition of the news. Does that help make for the lack of updates this week? I thought it might.

Da' News

This just in! Left 4 Dead new DLC 'The Sacrifice' is set to release for PC (via Steam) and Xbox 360 on October 5th. Xbox users will pay 560MS Points to get the new DLC. As a point of interest, you can download the content for either L4D or L4D2. The latter of which gives owners the No Mercy campaing as well. I will be buying for L4D2. Francis with a frying pan is just too tempting to pass up.

Watch this Bulletstorm video from the Tokyo Game Show. Good stuff.

According to a Dtoid report, CoD: Black Ops will have a Zombie mode in it. Citing some recent Twitter posts and a strategy guide from Brady Games that has a section covering "Zombie mode." Nice!

Dead Rising 2 ships tomorrow. Naturally, I will be happily goring zombies in Fortune City by Wednesday evening and some of you may even be waiting in line at midnite tonight to get your hands on the game. In the meantime, this is a good video to keep you wanting more. In another tidbit of info, Frank West's camera will make a return in Case: West.

Red Dead Redemption released new DLC 'Liars and Cheats' last week. Co-Optimus has some info on the next DLC for the epic western....zombies. Get info on the Nightmare Pack.

Check out this fan-made Half-Life 2 movie!

Basketball peeps will want to check out the new NBA Elite 11 Demo for 360 and PS3.

Our friends at Coffee with Games who faithfully support the Nintendo Wii platform have an interesting statistic. Super Smash Bros. is now the most played Wii game in America.

Possibly the coolest project ever undertaken. A man named Brian De Vitis made a geek icon into something so cool and geeky it might just make you cry geek tears of joy. An R2D2 gaming unit with 11 different retro gaming consoles installed in its core and projected out R2's dome. You want to click this link.

Dead Space (PS3) Mini-Review

Each weapon has alternate fire modes. The flamethrower can shoot fireballs. Or as seen here, fry necromorphs.
Ok as promised here is little review on the original Dead Space. If you are a survival horror game junkie then even the slightest suggestion of Dead Space being a top-notch title in that genre should send you out running to pick up a copy. Even if grotesque creatures with freakishly long appendages and a penchant for dropping out of the ceiling to scare the pee out of you is not your bag of tea you should at least give it a try. Dead Space was a fantastic romp that kept me entertained till the very end. You play as Issac Clarke, an engineer with an awesome space suit and an iron resolve. You and your crew end up marooned on the planet-cracker space ship the Ishimura and these things called Necromorphs have taken over the ship and its passengers. As Issac you have a number of tasks to complete in a 12 chapter story that weaves an interesting and exciting plot. Graphics were great and frame-rate never dipped. Story was good, controls were tight, and combat was enjoyable.
You can continue to move around while the HUD is active.

Two things stood out to me with this game. 1) Dismemberment of the Necromorphs is the surest way to kill them and thusly it made for some intense battles with precision aiming. As a result the weapons you use are fantastic and the variety of opponents makes using the different weapons a necessity. 2) The HUD and information screens. Not one single cut-scene movie (save for the last few seconds of the game) was needed. All information is disseminated through your HUD which is a combo of pop-up videos and audio tracks. It keeps you connected to the action and to the task in front of you. The inventory system, map, and info screens all tie-in to the HUD making it all very seamless. I liked it a lot.

You talking to me?

Overall - 8.5

Dead Rising 2 Case:West Featuring Frank West

So what I thought was reported was that Frank West is a playable co-op character in Dead Rising 2, but instead it turns out Capcom has announced an Epilogue for a yet to be released game. In a nutshell, our buddy Frank West will be starring along side Chuck Greene in DLC that is exclusive to Xbox 360 (sorry PS3 fans). Let's hope it retains the $5 price tag that Case:Zero has.

I have mixed feelings about this announcement. Thoughts?

Alice: Madness Returns New Trailer and Screens

Fresh off the Tokyo Game Show (happening now) floor is this trailer for EA's new Alice game. Below are a few screenshots from the game and a concept art picture to boot. The first trailer was freaky. This one is a little less freaky, but it still hits the mark and leaves you wanting more. Not sure how this title will play when it releases (ETA unknown) but it looks like the visuals will rock your socks off.

Left 4 Dead The Sacrifice Comic is Quite Good

This is why Francis is my favorite character in the L4D universe.

If you haven't already I highly recommend checking out Valve's new Left 4 Dead comic that just released yesterday. I read it and I am really looking forward to the next 3 chapters. The goal of this comic is to give gamers some backstory on our beloved original L4D foursome and then eventually give us the scoop on how Bill died in the beginning of "The Passing" DLC and therefore bridge the story between L4D and L4D2.

So what are your thoughts on the comic? Like? Don't like? Comments?

Now Playing: Dead Space (PS3)

Do you like gore? Well? Do ya? Punk.

First time through and I am loving it. This is a great game. Look for a mini-review down the road.

Zombie News No. 27

Ok so I am going to hit the game news running here and mister zombie in the pic above (taken from the cover art of George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" movie) is going to keep an eye on things for me while I keep playing Dead Space. Heh.

It's a bit blurry, but you get the idea.

Dead Rising 2 to include Frank West as co-op playable character - How awesome is that? DR2 is shaping up to be a huge game. Bigger than I think most of us anticipated.

Halo Reach is shipping tomorrow and the reviews are in. IGN, Dtoid, and the rest of them all say the same thing.Basically this is Bungie's masterpiece. A hallmark of FPS gaming. A must have. So what ya waiting for?

Speaking of reviews, Spider Man Shattered Dimensions is out in stores and reviews are mixed among sites.

Dead Space 2 Co-op video alert! - I am playing the first title and I love it. Can't wait for the sequel.

Dead Space 2 multi-player Preview from Joystiq.

Booyah!
Left 4 Dead's new comic for "The Sacrifice" DLC releases part 1 tomorrow. - Great wallpapers! Like this one.

Finally, a Red Dead Redemption sequel has hit the rumor mill after an employee for a service provider of Rockstar Games let the name slip. Co-Optimus has a bit more info for you. What would a RDR sequel look like for you? Hit up the comments!

Stay here for more news!

Add "The Crazies" to My Favorite Zombie Film Collection

One of my favorite zombie movies in the past decade is Zack Snyder's 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. It is very light on plot points and kind of stingy on character development, but its a fun romp that I enjoyed quite a bit. Romero's version from 1978 is still a classic as well. I want to add another Romero remake into my favorite zombie movies bin....The Crazies. It wastes no time sucking you into the vaccum of zombie hell. I never saw the original Romero flick, but this latest version from last year (out on DVD now) is a keeper on its own. What's more is that the plot seems a tad more believable than just re-animated corpses lusting for brains and human flesh. Trust me this is a good one for even the most casual zombie-film fans.

Zombie News No.26

Wow so thank all of you for keeping the flame burning here on GZ. I was surprised to see I had a few more followers on Twitter and that the traffic here has remained steady. Granted that was probably credited to only a few people and maybe some blog bots, but hey I can dream right? Well since I have so much to cover in the week since my last post, I am going with a slightly different format here. Basically a list of links with some of my sly comments to the side. The CoD Black Ops train is full speed ahead as it is basically dominating my choice of news here. Don't let that deter you zombie lovers though because I played Dead Rising 2 Case Zero and after this post, I will be typing up my impressions. Want a hint? September 28th can't come fast enough!
