New Halo Reach Battle Begins Trailer

I can't help but get a little excited about Halo Reach. Yeah I know I should be drooling at this trailer. You probably already are drooling....*slurp*

100 Posts!! Zombie News No. 23

Unnhhnn? 100 posts you say?
I can hardly believe it. 100 posts later and I am still here posting my heart away. Who knew I had that kind of staying power. I haven't given up on my dream of having an interactive community of gamers and zombie lovers visiting and commenting on my site/blog. Eventually, I will get off my tush and buy a domain name. For now, I am just trying to get more readers. Baby steps right? Or better yet un-dead shambling steps!

So as any dreary-eyed and caffeine induced PC gamer knows by now StarCraft II made its much anticpated release unto the masses on Tuesday. A fellow blogger who goes by JB has posted his intial impressions on the game, and Joystiq has posted a full review on it already. For you hold-outs, Kmart is running a $20 off sale that ends tomorrow.
Alan Wake has still not graced my 360 console, but for those that actually bought the game you got some free DLC content ready to take you back into Bright Falls. Go download the "The Signal" from the marketplace now!

Destructoid is giving us a reason to be excited about Madden NFL 11. In the way of a contest which includes  a NEW XBOX360 SLIM!! Simple contest (and fun) to enter. Just find a public place and strike a pose. Hell run a few plays with your buddies in the middle of the shopping mall. Best pic/video wins it all. Details here. Oh and for us skeptics (Aye!) on yearly reboots of said game the demo is out for your abusing.

I went back and read the July OXM report on Call of Duty: Black Ops this morning. I am so stoked to get my zombie paws on it! The highlights from the report detail the single-player campaign which sounds amazing with everything from flying an SR-71 blackbird, sneaking up on VietCong in man-made tunnels, and using a crossbow (with optional explosive tip arrows) to silently take out enemies. It's a must read and will get your heart pumping with just the thought of it! Oh and by the way, the graphics in this game look to surpass any other CoD game before it. With screens like the one below we could all be in for some visceral and stunning imagery.

Time for some fun and interesting facts! GameStop has acquired the online game site Kongregate. For those that don't know, Kongregate is chock full of HIGH-quality flash games for you to enjoy. Case in point the game Mastermind. Not sure what the retailer has in mind for this acquisition but I am sure greedy executives are behind it.

The beloved Major Nelson from Xbox Live gave a link on a recent tweet that is actually a pretty interesting read for the techie in all of us. Ever wanted to know how it is Rockstar can tell you how many pedestrians you ran over in GTA IV? It's a bit of a high-level read so if you don't have an IT background, you might skip it. Still, its fun to know how developers get all of these cool game stats!

Finally, Joystiq came across some plushies that are just downright adorable and cool. Portal 2 themed plushies no less! Here you can buy a GLaDos emotional spheres that repeat funny quips and phrases from the Portal game. I checked and it seems every nerd on the internet purchased one so you will have to wait for more to become available. For $45 I think I can wait, barely.

Until next time!

Modern War Gear: Solid - Part 2

These guys are brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. The whole thing from the staches to the outfits is just top notch. Enjoy!

Ghost Recon Future Solider: Live Action Short Film Teaser

I am really anticipating Ghost Recon Future Solider next year. If you haven't seen the live-action game trailer check out my previous post on it. This little 55 second trailer shows how much money Ubisoft is throwing at this franchise. Pretty high-quality if you ask me. This is just a teaser peeps so don't tear it apart just yet. I think  we can expect a trailer later this year. Even if the trailer blows chunks this is on my top 5 list of games I absolutely MUST have. I actually kind of like the no dialogue-just-shoot approach. Hoorah!

Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition!

I just got an email from GameStop announcing the new Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition. Here is what is included in the exclusive Two-Disc Steelbook (f**kin steel baby!) case:

Dead Rising 2 game disc
High-Definition game disc with 83 Minute “Zombrex Dead Rising Sun” motion picture and 24 minute “Making of” featurette
Zombrex “Syringe” pen
Zombrex “Prescription” notepad (25 pages)
Zombrex “Safety” card
Zombrex “Prospectus” Sales Brochure (16 pages).
Dead Rising 2 Hardback Artbook (48 pages

Now perhaps the coolest thing about this package is the Syringe Pen and the Dead Rising Sun movie. Not that the movie would be any good, but seriously aren't ALL zombie movies B-rated at best? With of course the exception being the original Night of the Living Dead. I bet if the main characters Ben and Barbara had some chainsaws on a paddle and perhaps a helmet with Elk antlers on it they might have been a little more confident in their survival. They would at least have made it out of the house.

Some Weekend Gaming Morsels

Yup I got some decent stuff to share on a Saturday afternoon! Lets get to it shall we?

You might of heard of a shooter called Medal of Honor (a new game, old title) that will be hitting store shelves and your wallet on October 12th of this year. Well what you might not have heard is that this latest version is actually based on input from real Tier 1 operators that serve the US military machine. The modern day bad-ass is depicted as realistically as possible in this shooter, which is being developed by well known DICE studios. Joystiq has a preview of the single-player game up on their site and a guy from Dtoid gets upset about playing as al-Qaeda in multi-player.

Little Big Planet 2 is on its way to PS3 consoles November 16th and there will be a collector's edition and pre-order bonuses available. There are so many ways to dress your sack! Erm...your character affectionately known as Sackboy.

Dtoid posted their impressions of the new Madden NFL 11 Demo due out next week. Honestly, I would be hard pressed to buy another yearly football game. I catch the football fever every year and watch as many games as I can, but after the season ends that's it I'm done and so is any football game. It has been awhile for me so if this demo is good....I might rent it.

Blowing everyone away at Comic-Con this week with news of a new Dragon Age 2 game was Bioware. The original received high marks for a great story and gameplay. Normally I don't post about RPG games that much, but rumor has it this one is darker, brutal, and over the top. Anything with that description is worth taking a look right?

Finally, what would a weekend post be without yet another game with zombies in it? A zombie-less post that's what. Actually this game has been out for a little while on the PS3 network. It's called Burn Zombie Burn. Simple and effective right? This little romp has you cooking up a zombie BBQ with hero Bruce and his flamethrower. It even has a dance-gun that makes all of the zombie dance for a few moments a la thriller. The latest news has it set to come out on PC via Steam this August. Enjoy the video and have a great weekend!

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, Aug. 31 for $5

Capcom released details on their upcoming prequel to Dead Rising 2 titled Case Zero. Mark your calendar for August 31st and set aside 400 Microsoft Points to find out what happens between the end of the original Dead Rising and the start of Dead Rising 2. I already posted some details about Case Zero that you can check out. All in all I would say this is a deal for both fans of the series and those who are new. I really hope to see some weapon combos in this DLC. I would love to combine a crossbow and dynamite....maybe a stun gun and a super-soaker. What? It could work!

PC Gamers vs. Console Gamers in FPS games- Is there a clear winner?

How do you think you would do against a PC player vs. an Xbox player?

So yesterday I posted a link to a story that brought to light a Microsoft project that would have brought PC and Xbox 360 players together for some cross-platform gaming. The project was canned by MS because PC gamers absolutely crushed the console gamers every time they went head-to-head. According to the story, the test put mediocre PC gamers up against top-notch console gamers with the aforementioned results. I have some ideas on why this was a terrible attempt and how it could have been a great thing.

I have played many a FPS game on both PC and consoles. For years, consoles couldn't come close to reproducing the FPS experience that PCs delivered regularly. I have used a trackball for years and when ever I played Rainbow Six, Unreal Tournament, or Quake I had an extreme amount of precision at my fingertips. Couple that with some nimble fingers on the AWSD keys and on a good day I was near the top of the leader board at the end of matches. I use to go up against some friends of mine online and via LAN that would just pwn me repeatedly and vice versa.

I gradually started playing my Playstation 2 more often than my PC when Grand Theft Auto started becoming more popular and to me games like that just seemed better suited to a PS2 controller than a keyboard and mouse. The same goes for racing games. It wasn't until I saw Halo and then Gears of War that I started thinking of FPS gaming on a console as a real competitor to traditional FPS gaming on a PC. First and foremost the gameplay just felt slower, but after 10 or 15 matches I adjusted. Secondly, the controls obviously were not as precise and as responsive as my PC setup particularly compared to my mouse. I really had to adjust to using an analog stick for both movement and aiming. It didn't take long for me to start adjusting my reflexes and coordination to this different scheme of control. That leads me to my first point.

The BIGGEST hurdle to overcome for cross-platform gaming? Making the platform type not matter. Microsoft was dumb for thinking it could just link the two platforms via Live and all live in harmony. Yeah it could work for racing or adventure games, but not for the money making FPS genre. No way. Let's face it, shooter games are the bread and butter for multi-player gaming which makes it the cash cow that it is. So how   could MS level the playing field and put console and PC gamers on par with each other? Good question.

I honestly don't know what the best answer would be. Obviously it would revolve around the control input. My initial thought would be to hook an Xbox 360 controller into those PCs and voila! Problem solved. I just know that PC fanboys would bitch about being handicapped and if we flip it around and give console players a mouse and keyboard to plug in, well that just defeats the purpose of having a console in the first place and while the hardcore would jump in, the serious recreational and casual gamers would not. So where does that leave us? Simple. Leave the options up to the gamer. Come out with an Xbox controller with a trackball built in to it (that would be sweet)! Make matches customizable so that only certain control methods are allowed. This could have been the best of both worlds had MS given it more thought. If they pressed on, opened up the control methods on both platforms and left it up to the gamer it would have caught fire! I would gladly buy a controller specifically designed for FPS with highly precise analog and/or trackball controls built in. That's the only sticking point people! Controls!

Bottom line....PC gamers are equipped to battle against foes with near-identical equipment as are console gamers. Would you go into a gunfight with a bb gun? Probably not. It doesn't mean console gamers are inferior in skill compared to PC gamers. It just means that while your replica Glock 17 air-soft gun might shoot my eye out, my .45 Colt 1911 with hollow-points will make your head into a canoe. Right after a I cry in agony and then aim with my one good eye.

StarCraft II - Ghosts of the Past

Yeah I know this trailer has been out since yesterday, but I just saw it and my jaw dropped. So while I search for it on the floor go ahead and watch this trailer. Then look for your jawbone on the ground.

I also wanted to throw this one in, just cuz its AWESOME. This is game is epic.

Creepy Trailer - Alice: Madness Returns

Thanks Keith!

Zombie News No. 22

If you haven't watched Zombieland yet and you are a self-professed Zombie lover (or hater) then take 98 minutes and watch it. Great flick with some good one-liners that you can quote all day long. I especially like the credits in the beginning of the film. The zombie stripper and the fire zombie are just classic. The rules that our main character Columbus refers to throughout the movie are also funny and memorable when played out in certain scenes. I have yet to watch another film about zombie-like folks called "The Crazies" but I have it on my to-do list. Also I was recently told (head nod Mr. Scott) to pick up a book called "World War Z" by Max Brooks. It's a collection of stories about a fictional world-wide zombie pandemic. I hear very good things about it. Now on to the news!

Game News

Just about everytime you jump into Red Dead Redemption for some multiplayer fun in a Free Roam session, where (as the title suggests) you can roam around freely with the other players, you get shot in the face rather immediately death-match style. Well Rockstar is aiming to fix that wagon with a new patch coming soon.

Joystiq has a preview of Dead Space 2 and from where I am sitting....I still need to play the original! This is also looking purdy good though.

Gears of War 3 is gonna be epic, but the boys in development are letting the players decide the fate of in-game character Clayton Carmine in the story.
Will players let him live or die? One thing is sure. Carmine brings some serious grub-ass-kicking skills to the table.

Switching gears (pun intended) to another franchise, our favorite bad boy Jedi from The Force Unleashed is returning to consoles for a sequel, but just today Gamestop announced a new pre-order bonus that if friggin sweet. Mainly because of the character it unlocks and the story possibilities behind it.

Here is the picture of said character and the description that follows:
"In the cloning facilities of Kamino, Darth Vader created a warrior of unparalleled strength and power by combining the genetic material of Darth Maul, former apprentice of Sith Lord Darth Sidious, with his own apprentice, Starkiller. The resulting aberrant clone possessed traits from both warriors, but the crude fusion of two disparate Force users quickly produced physical and mental instabilities that led to the unfortunate clone’s destruction. For a brief time he struck fear into the hearts of all who faced him, even Lord Vader himself." His name? Maulkiller. How wicked is that?

I was a Transformers nerd when I was a kid. I have the new game in my queue, and this trailer for the DLC that is releasing next week has me pumped to get my paws on it.

Other News

Some good news for PS3 owners and Netflix. A new disc-less version of the service will be releasing for PS3 in the coming months. Putting the disc in every time you want to watch a flick is just crappy. Problem solved (soon).

And perhaps the most interesting news of all, Dtoid reported a story about how Microsoft had it in their master plan to have cross-platform play for all titles between PC and 360. Apparently many moons past it was nixed because....ready....steady....console gamers couldn't hang. Yup. Apparently tests on the idea revealed that PC gamers "destroyed" console gamers every time.

Thoughts? Comment below! Till next time!

Modern War Gear: Solid - A CoD/Metal Gear parody mashup

This was too funny and too well done not to share! Enjoy! I will post part 2 next week when it releases.

Awesome Zombie Flash Game, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero info, and Scott Pilgrim

Don't miss your chance to play this one of a kind flash game. A simple little romp that is worthy of your precious time!

Zombies Took My Daughter

Some light has been shed on the prelude for Dead Rising 2 called Case Zero. The downloadable content is going to take the player through Chuck Greene's motivation for kicking zombie butt all over Fortune City. Some details of Case Zero was realeased during Capcom's "Save the Zombie" event in Tokyo today. Get this, there is a movie based on DR2 being released (a B-movie for sure) to DVD. No details on that movie release yet.

Lastly, if this picture of upcoming PSN and XBLA game Scott Pilgrim vs. the World doesn't get you jazzed to get back into 8-bit style gaming....well then check your pulse.

That's a lot of 8-bit ass kicking right there! We have some really great downloadable games out right now (DeathSpank and Limbo) and this little beat-em-up is scheduled for Aug 10th for PSN and Aug 25th XBLA release.

What a year for gamers!

Game Zombie News No.21

Yeah so I am just itching to chop up some zombie flesh come September 28th and to commemorate this thought I went ahead and used Dead Rising 2 official box art for the pic on this edition of the news. It captures everything I love about the Dead Rising series. First and foremost is that our hero Chuck Greene is holding a hell of a weapon for dispatching a slew of zombies. Dual paddle saw? Check. Now note the ridiculous, yet endearing yellow head to Chuck's left. That image clearly defines what makes Dead Rising so much damn fun to play. Yes you can have a little fun with our ravenous friends. So while I bide my time until this little gem hits my mailbox here is the news the way I see it!

Reviews:

So this new XBLA and PSN game called Limbo released today to rave reviews. Joystiq and Dtoid. I can dig the style of this game. If I can't win a copy, I just might consider buying it.

NCAA Football 11 has decent showing this year. 8.5 is not bad at all for IGN. Dtoid review.

Game News:

New L4D2 mutation has you hacking it up with nothing but swords!

Here is the new Dead Rising 2 website. TapeitorDie.com Enjoy!

Plant vs. Zombies gets an XBLA release date and price. The defacto $15. Go figure.

I just found a new reason to download Steam (Yeah I know). Alien Swarm anyone?

Finally, you should all open iTunes and type in Zombies in the AppStore section search bar. An entire section of zombie related apps! I wouldn't download most of them, but its still nice to see our beloved corpses getting some attention!

Until next time!

Must See Video: Super Mario Bros. Played on a Curb

OK so I had to post this after I found it on another site and only because I think the technology is really cool. So this is probably only for us nerds and retro game zombies. So the scoop is that a student named Andreas Heikus who is studying match-moving (putting digital animation into the real world) did this for his thesis. He plays out an entire run through of original Super Mario Bros. on a street curb. Well enough talk...check it out!

Zombie News No. 20

So I decided to take Naughty Bear off my list of games to play. Why? Well as novel as the idea of stabbing teddy bears in the gut with a machete sounded, after the reviews I read, and the thought I gave it....it was just that 'a novel idea.' So in the interest of saving myself valuable hours of life I nixed it from my list. Here is something else you might find interesting....I am nearly done with Red Dead Redemption and when I beat it I will be setting it to the side for awhile. Yes I know it may come as a shock to some of you, but its only temporary. RDR is one of the better games I have played in the past few years, however I must give other games a try in order to keep my game zombie urges at bay. Too much of one game can make a zombie go crazy!

Now for some news....

Reviews and Previews

Naughty Bear gets mediocre reviews from Joystiq and Dtoid(5.0 average) - What were you expecting? Oh right something fun....FAIL.

Crackdown 2 joins the shoulda, coulda, woulda crowd. Gets a 4.5 from Dtoid. - I am really kind of in a way not really disappointed about this game.

Singularity (Joystiq) - Well this game has really cool ideas and sounds like it would be worth a rent.

NBA Elite 11 might just get me back into basketball gaming. I was a huge NBA Live fan back in the day. They could couple this with Kinect so I can practice my jump shot in the living room.

Ok so everyone loves Modern Warfare 2 right? Well ok most of us do. EA's Medal of Honor game looks so close and acts so close to MW2 that it could be called Modern Warfare 2.1. That may not be a bad thing!

PS3 and Xbox will be welcoming Hulu Plus to their online streaming reportire. PS3 gets it soon, Xbox later.

Finally, I am treating all of you to a taste of the new shooter Bulletstorm from esteemed game guru CliffyB of Gears of War fame. This should be a great game! Enjoy!
